Smash That Cake! First Birthday Phenomenon Going Crazy.

Moving to Toronto has introduced me to many new fads as a photographer but this is one takes the biscuit...

The Cake Smash craze has got to be one of my favourite phenomenons. It is SO much fun...for the adults at least. 
What an ingenious idea that came upon its creator...sit a child in front of a cake and let them smash it to pieces whilst having a photographer capture it all on camera. I absolutely love photographing these birthday celebrations.

SO much mess but SO worth it. In preparation for the Cake Smash I create the rag bunting and pompom's to individual colour concepts. I enjoy making the props for the photography session and watching it all come together on camera. 

For many of my Cake Smash babies this is their very first taste of cake. The reactions can be priceless and the end result is one very energetic almost 1 year old! Sugar, sugar, sugar!

Despite many bursting into tears once the Cake has been broken or their little fingers are covered in cake, there are always those funny few who love every second. Either way the photos are treasured and embraced. There's definitely joy found in letting them loose upon the beautiful birthday Cake.
