It was a wet November golden hour when we met up at Humber Bay Shores for this crazy maternity session. Of course the forecast was for all the rain to have passed by the time our session was supposed to begin but the clouds didn’t play ball and instead we just rolled with it and laughed a whole lot.

It was my first ever maternity shoot at Humber Bay Shores and it’s now become one of my favourite Toronto based hot spots for sessions. It actually has a lot of diversity to offer each session from the open fields and tree lines to the epic bridge, trail paths and city skyline.

Keep reading to check out shots from all of those incredible spots.

We started out in the open fields under some gorgeous willow trees for a bit of shelter from the rain. Thankfully this awesome couple brought along a little posse of people in the form of mom, dad and sis. Dad was an absolute legend and held a brolley (umbrella for the non-brits) over my head as we got the session underway and I was going all over the field trying to capture such cute angles.

Who knew there were such hidden gems in Toronto? I’ve been photographing love stories in this amazing city for 5+ years and I’m still discovering new places. I love that I’m always uncovering new cool spots to offer my families. It keeps the photography exciting and evolving.

When we turned the corner from the fields to head over to the trails and get the skyline involved we had to cross this bad boy and my photography eye felt like it hit the jackpot.

I love everything about it, the contrast of straight and curved lines, the high rise apartment buildings mixed with the trees. It’s just gorgeous, don’t you think?

After about 20 minutes or so the rain cleared up and it left the most flattering golden light that bounced off of the wet ground. It felt like the warmest of evenings and made for a super cosy maternity shoot and easy stroll around the park.

That’s one of the biggest perks of rain in Canada, I never hit a time where there isn’t a break in the rain. Even on my wettest of wedding days there has always been a break in the rain for us to get out and make the most of the cloudy skies.

In contrast growing up in England if it rained it rained and it might not stop for over 24 hours for sure.

Over the bridge you follow the paths along and into a more trail like adventure, which eventually lands you at this great spot. With the Toronto city skyline as your backdrop you can’t help but be onto a winner with this maternity session or any session you shoot here.

We were also the only people there which is amazing for a Toronto based photoshoot. Usually the best photoshoot locations in Toronto come with the expected downfall of popularity and multiple photographers trying to shoot there all at once. But not here, we had the trail and skyline to ourselves. It was pure bliss.

If you do a complete 180 from the Toronto skyline you get this heavenly location. So many options all in one spot are what makes Humber Bay Shores a great location for all types of sessions in my books.

I am all about the wild and long tall grass but also love to mix in a bit or urban architecture too so it’s a win win win for me.

The stormy skies made for a pretty dramatic backdrop when I switched their maternity photos black and white. Not something you can plan of course but 100% something to embrace when you find yourself on a rainy session. Keep in mind that rain and storms bring their own kind of beauty to the table.

I don’t turn every image black and white in couples galleries, instead I only turn the ones that pop and really benefit from it. I tend to find that the close up shots reap the most reward from black and white editing.

One of the highlights for this maternity shoot was the rainbow that lined the sky behind them just perfectly. Man it was special and just idyllic. I couldn’t have planned the weather and location for this maternity session any better if I’d spoke to God and given him this plan in person lol.

I am still booking up a limited amount of maternity sessions for 2020 so be sure to get in touch and steal up a spot before they’re all gone for this year.
