A Relaxed Summer Getaway To This Stunning Algonquin B & B
This stay was gifted in return for this post.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This year hubbie and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary with a special getaway to this amazing Bed & Breakfast near Huntsville and felt like we hit the getaway jackpot. Not only was it located under 2hrs away, it blew our expectations completely out of the water in so many ways.
Back home (England) Bed & Breakfasts are a fairly popular option for short trips away, with most towns having multiple on offer. Over here in Ontario, Canada however I find it quite rare to find those original, authentic B&B style ones. We were not looking for an Air BnB self catering situation, but instead were seeking that warm, homely touch with a breakfast included in our stay. That’s when our searching landed us on this gem - Algonquin West Bed And Breakfast.
As soon as our car pulled up the driveway we both looked at each other wide-eyed as the quaintness of this bed and breakfast caught us off guard. Sometimes photos just don’t do something justice and this was this case here. We had checked out the photos online and scrolled the Instagram feed to get a good feel for what to expect but arriving in person was so much more than a good IG post could portray.
From the manicured gardens to the stunning potted plants, hanging baskets and stone pathway it was simply beautiful to look at and a joy to meander through on our way to our private entrance suite.
The decor in the Yellow Birch Suite is simple, elegant, and welcoming. There are so many thoughtful touches throughout the suite that just pull you in and make you feel at home and surrounded by comfort immediately. We were unsure what we wanted to do first, cuddle up with our books, the blankets and a good cup of tea or head out onto our private deck and enjoy a glass of wine and conversation as we watched the local wildlife. The hummingbirds were out in force drinking from the feeders!
Hands down Kelley (our superhost) is THE best baker! We couldn’t get enough of these homemade fresh chocolate chip cookies and paired with the complimentary bottle of red wine it was just the perfect way to end our evening and first night at Algonquin West B&B.
Now let’s get to the crucial question…was the bed comfy? YES! In fact it was spacious, comfy and looked like it was straight out of a Homesense catalogue. The fresh flowers and chocolates at the bedside were a sweet touch too. Hubbie may or may not have let me eat them all.
Here’s where I don’t know if I can write this well enough to truly express my excitement. Kelley’s breakfasts!
Simply put they are phenomenal! If you don’t already know myself and Marc are vegan. Usually this means eating out can be a bit of a nightmare and we either have to go vegetarian, bring our own or just accept that it won’t be very tasty. Well not at Algonquin West B&B! Kelley blew us away with her ability to cater to our vegan lifestyle and deliver the most delicious smoothies, juices and breakfasts we’ve ever had. Both mornings Kelley delivered our breakfast hamper to the front step and we were excited to dig in. I have honestly never tasted a better vegan breakfast and am desperate to steal her recipes so I can remake these at home.
I promise you that no matter your dietary requirements your breakfast here will be exceptional. Kelley puts so much time, energy and love into each breakfast, just go check out the B&B’s Instagram account to see what I am talking about.
Now what a hidden treasure this is! A cute conservatory in the forest that’s perfect for a quiet coffee, an afternoon with your head in a book or a lunchtime wine and chat with your loved one. As soon as I spotted it on our way to our suite I couldn’t wait to get up there. I cozied up under one of the blankets with a lovely cup of tea and just listened to the birds as I sat back and enjoyed some peaceful time to myself. As a mum of 4 I don’t get many of these moments so I embraced every second.
There really is nothing to want for when you chose to stay here. From the friendly welcome and comfy stay that’s full of personal touches it melts away your cares. Kelley provided us countless tips on local places to visit, where to pick up great vegan food and go hiking for the day. We honestly can’t wait to be back here again soon, escaping the day to day of city life and enjoying the energy that getting out into nature brings.
