Toronto Newborn Photographer Reveals Why The Lifestyle Approach Is The New Hit
There was a time when baby photography was all about the stunning work of those like the ridiculously gifted Anne Geddes. You know the ones, those incredible calendar photos of babies wrapped up in flowers, chilling over the edge of wicker baskets, curled up in wooden bowls or being carried by a stalk and hanging from a tree branch.
I am fairly certain we all swoon over how beautiful those photos are. When I first started out in newborn photography I too went down that route. To be honest it was all I knew and I loved it. It is real artistry to pose and edit those photos. But over time as my photography life evolved, morphed and moulded into its own approach I found myself wanting to capture babies the same way I capture other love stories like engagements and weddings. With a more organic and natural feel. I desired images that didn’t seek perfection as much as they sought out connection and emotion.
This is when I discovered what is known as Lifestyle Photography. It pretty much means capturing your life as it is. No studio, no clever lighting or props, just your family, your home and your treasured possessions.
It does not include heavy posing nor is it in pursuit of the ‘technically perfect’ shot. It’s goal is to capture the connections and uniqueness of your new baby, incorporate your world and document it with authenticity.
As some of you may know if you follow me in social media we are expecting a new arrival of our own in just under 7 weeks, a third mini human for our tribe. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome our new family member and to document it I am booking our very own Lifestyle Newborn Session. I practice what I preach and this style genuinely tugs at my heart strings and I cannot wait to be the other side of the camera having my own family captured in this way. I already have an empty frame up on our wall ready for my favourite shot from that very shoot.
Big news for CopperRed Photography in 2019…I have made the decision that after my maternity leave I will no longer be offering the Posed Newborn Sessions. I am investing my heart and soul into documenting all my photoshoots in this way, organic, natural, and timeless.
I want to create imagery for your family that adorns your walls for a lifetime. Photos that represent more than a milestone in your lives, the expansion of your love story. For me the best way I know to accomplish this goal is through Lifestyle Sessions.
You can simply never regret photos that show your family as it truly is, not overly photoshopped or awkwardly posed. Just connecting and spending time together. Sure we throw in some cute baby grows, your favourite muslin and great grandma’s rocking chair but thats what makes it so awesome, it’s all about what you and your family love.
These sessions are a lot shorter in time too which is so lovely in those early days of the postpartum journey. Averagely they last between 1-1.5hrs depending on whether baby needs a feed or a change. We move around your home using all the spaces with gorgeous natural light flooding in, from the lounge and bedrooms to the nursery. Nowhere with natural light is off limits so we can get as creative and adventurous as you want.
The Lifestyle Baby Sessions include a mix of your little one on their own and all their little details from hair to fingers and toes. We of course shoot each parent with them solo and then the family all together. If this is number 2, 3 4 or more for you then for sure we embrace the crazy chaos that is sibling photos.
That’s another perk of the Lifestyle Newborn approach. It is relaxed and allows the older siblings to play and interact with no stress. We want to encourage them to cuddle up or lay side by side but it doesn’t have to be seamless, we can have them looking over at them or at the camera, reading a story to them or playing with their blocks in the background. It truly opens the door to so many opportunities for sibling photos.
With baby Maunder #3 fast approaching it’s time to book up your Lifestyle Newborn Session today.
I often receive emails from families asking when they should book up and I always say it’s never too early to avoid disappointment. I only book a limited number per month as I mix them in with my family, engagement and wedding commitments.
So if you would like to capture your new addition with authenticity, no stress, and in the comfort of your home head on over to my Lifestyle Newborn portfolio and check out all the portfolio and then pop me a message and we can get the ball rolling. Keep in mind that we can shoot these sessions anywhere from 5 days old to 2 months.
I currently have space for 2 more December 2018 babies. Then I will be booking January sessions up until Jan 14th 2019. Your baby would however need to be born by the 1st week of January 2019 to ensure we can get it in before I head off for 8 weeks of maternity leave to cuddle up my own bambino.
I will then be accepting booking from March 15th 2019 onwards which would mean your due date needs to be Feb 21st 2019 onwards.
