Lifestyle Newborn Session FAQ's || CopperRed Photography

I’ve been meaning to get around to this blog for a while now but mom and mompreneur life have been a little chaotic so I’ve finally found a break in my beautiful schedule to get this one done.

Newborn photography is where I began. Yup, believe it or not I started out capturing mini humans over 5 years ago and I just love it to the point where I don’t think I’ll ever give it up. Visiting new families in their homes to document the arrival of their precious new baby, a brand new, prune like, softest hair ever, new human being is just a mind blowing honour.

My unique way of capturing these gorgeous kiddos is more natural and organic and as it’s less well known I think there are a lot of questions couples and families have that are easily answered in a quick FAQ style blog. So here we go…

#1 How old should the baby be?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions hands down and the amazing plus side to Lifestyle Newborn Sessions is the flexibility of ideal shooting time. The window I offer runs from 5 days old to 5 weeks old with the best slot tending to be around the 2 week mark. So if you want to jump right in and capture baby while they are super fresh we can 100% do that or if you would rather have a little more time to rest and recoup then that works too. I love that the timing of the session can be tailored to your needs in that way.

#2 What should we wear?

Another great question I get asked a lot and here’s what I say. Something to always keep in mind is that these are YOUR photos and so they should represent you, your family, and it’s vibe. You need to love what you are wearing first.
After that I suggest choosing a colour palette and then creating outfits for the whole family that blend within that palette over ‘matching’. Lighter colours tend to work well as they help us to brighten the photos a little as we shoot in your home.

For the baby I love a cute white under onesie to allow me to capture all the tiny details like their adorable thigh rolls, toes and hair. I tend to find that actually outfits like dresses or pants and shirts are all oversized and hide a lot of your babies features at this age. So instead my suggestion would be to lean more towards cute pj’s, all in ones. Make sure their outfits are within your colour palette choice too.

#3 How long will the session last?

Babies are super unpredictable so I allot a time frame of 1 to 1.5 hours. This allows us to feed baby or a quick diaper change if we need to. The session should feel relaxed and I don’t want you worrying if baby is a little fussy because we have lots of time to work around them.

#4 Does our house need to be tidy?

I have to be honest..kinda yes. As we are shooting in your home it means your home, your bed, your sofa, your kitchen and the nursery are our backdrops. So just try to hide a bit of the clutter from the bedside tables, the coffee table and the kitchen sides. You will be so happy that you made the effort to clean up a little for the photos.

#5 How long does it take to get our photos?

3 weeks is my maximum turn around time for delivering your online gallery. This gallery is enabled with instant download so you can get sharing and enjoying them right away.

We use the online gallery for you to choose your print choice (that comes with your session package). It then takes a further 2-3 weeks for you to receive your USB and print in the mail. I do bi-weekly print orders so the wait time depends on when your session fell in that timeline.

#6 Can we pay cash and avoid the tax?

Nope, nada, never. Sorry. I run a legit business which means I have to pay my taxes regardless of how you opt to pay. You are welcome to pay in cash however the tax will still be applied.

#7 When should we book a Lifestyle Newborn Session?

I only accept a max of 6 newborns each month so if you have fallen in love with my portfolio, my style and my price point then to avoid any disappointment I would always recommend booking up asap. To give you some date options I will need your due date (if baby hasn’t arrived yet). If baby is already here then I can send you over what I have available straight away.

#8 Are the photos watermarked?

I don’t know why but this question always catches me off guard because you should never be paying for a session that has images included with the packages and then be receiving them watermarked. So nope, the files you receive are all watermark free.

#9 What is our baby arrives early?

One of the main reasons I book a limited number of sessions each month is to allow for movement of sessions should baby arrive early or late or even if after delivery you decide you would like to push the session back a little to get some more rest. So if your little one makes an early appearance you just pop me a message and we adjust the session accordingly.

#10 IF i have a cold sore ora giant spot will you remove them?

So the lifetsyle approach to documenting your baby and family is aimed at keeping everything as natural as possible however should you happen to have been hit with a killer cold sore or extra large spot I will of course do my best to remove that.
When it comes to your baby however I do not heavily edit their skin. The photos are to represent them as they are, because they are perfect just as they come.
All photos are edited however for overall tone and lighting in tune with CopperRed’s style.

#11 We only need a few photos, can we pay for a shorter session?

In short, no lol. Let me explain. I have been working with newborns for over 5 years now and through that time have gained a wealth of experience that allows me to develop my sessions in a way that guarantee’s the quality of the end product. Although you may only be looking for a couple of photos I still need to shoot a whole bunch in order to attain those few. The session runs between 1-1.5 hours because I know that usually babies are fussy a little bit, get hungry, poop and then always hit a sweet spot within the session where we can fly through a bunch of shots. So we wouldn’t be able to guarantee a happy and content baby for a short duration of time capture only a few images.
